7% of games on Steam now disclose that they use generative AI in some form, according to a study.
That comes from Totally Human Media (via VGC), which puts the number at 7,818 games out of a total of around 114,126 on the Steam platform, as of July 13, 2025. The source is Steams API.
Thats a huge increase from Totally Human Medias last study in April 2024, which put the percentage at 1.1% of Steams library. 20,000+ more games have been released on Steam since then.
One in five releases so far in 2025 disclose generative AI use, according to the report. Around 60% of games with the disclosure notice are using visual asset generation.
Other uses include audio generation, text and narrative generation, marketing and promotional materials, as well as code and game logic.
Prominent Steam releases that disclose AI usage include inZOI (for generating in-game textures and character AI), Liars Bar (character voices), and Comedy Night (content moderation).
11-Bit Studios was recently the subject of criticism for an instance of generative AI text in The Alters, which wasnt disclosed. The studio vowed to update the art to remove this.
